Differences between double-wall and single-wall oil tanks
2020-08-25
Traditional single-layer steel oil tanks, due to their underground installation, are subjected to long-term internal and external corrosion, making them prone to leakage and causing soil and groundwater pollution accidents.
Double-walled oil tank
A double-walled oil tank consists of a single-layer steel oil tank with an added outer layer of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) leak-proof jacket, forming a double-walled structure. There is a communicating gap between the inner and outer steel tanks. It is also equipped with a leak detection device that can monitor the gap space 24/7. If a leak occurs in the inner or outer tank, the sensor in the leak detection device will sound an alarm when the liquid level rises in the gap space, ensuring the safe use of the oil tank.
Differences between double-walled and single-walled oil tanks
If the inner tank of a double-walled oil tank leaks, the gas or detection liquid under pressure in the double-walled gap will enter the inner tank at normal pressure. The pressure or liquid level in the double-walled gap will change, triggering an audible and visual alarm. Although the stored liquid will eventually leak into the double-walled gap, the stored liquid will not leak out because the outer tank remains intact. If the outer tank leaks, the gas or detection liquid under pressure in the double-walled gap will enter the soil. Similarly, the pressure or liquid level in the double-walled gap will change, triggering an audible and visual alarm. At this time, the stored liquid is safe because the inner tank is intact. Only gas or detection liquid enters the soil. Because the stored liquid in contact with the inner tank and the soil/groundwater in contact with the outer tank are different media, they have different corrosion rates on the tank material, and the probability of leakage occurring at the same time is almost zero. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the leakage of stored liquid outside the tank, ensuring production safety and environmental protection.
